Portrait photography is about getting a photograph that feels like the person in front of the camera. I know having your photograph taken can feel a bit awkward, especially if you’re not used to being in front of a camera, so I try to keep things relaxed and straightforward. There’ll usually be a bit of chatting and a few laughs along the way, which helps people forget about the camera and just be themselves. I’m not looking to make every portrait look the same. Different people need different approaches, and I like finding what works for each person, whether that’s something formal, relaxed or more creative. I’m also looking for the little things — an expression, a look or a moment when someone’s guard drops — that can make a photograph feel more natural. Ultimately, I want you to look at the finished photograph and think, “Yes, that’s me.”
